Key information about us
Company Overview (Short): "UPP is the operating system for upcycled food ingredients. We are a B2B ingredients company transforming agricultural side streams into scalable, functional drop-in allergen-free food ingredients. UPP enables food producers to reformulate products with higher fibre, improved nutrition, and lower environmental impact, without compromising taste, cost, or manufacturing compatibility."
Company Overview (Long): "UPP is food supply infrastructure. We turn underused brassica biomass — the stems and stalks left after broccoli is harvested for retail — into specification-grade protein and fibre ingredients for major food producers, and we do it through patent-protected automation coupled with patent-filed side-stream processing.
Our ingredients are non-novel foods, free of the 14 UK/EU declarable allergens, and engineered to drop into existing recipes at 4–30% inclusion without recipe overhaul. They are lower cost than the imported ingredients they replace and carry an order-of-magnitude lower carbon footprint (<0.25 kg CO₂e/kg, independent LCA). Our supply is BRCGS Grade A certified on first audit, ISO 9001 certified, and traceable from harvest through fractionation to finished ingredient. We are a Sedex member.
UPP works B2B with supermarket food manufacturers and foodservice operators, with a US trajectory commencing 2027. Foodservice sales have been live since December 2025; supermarket supply begins H2 2026; 25+ Tier 1 manufacturers are in trials, with 8 at or through Supplier Approval Questionnaire stage.
We are not 'frontier alt-protein' and not a consumer brand. We are the upstream layer that food producers and fermentation partners can build on — capital-lite, regulatorily clean, easy to integrate and delivering margin-positive sustainability and nutritional improvement for the entire supply chain."
What UPP Does:
Converts vegetable side streams into functional food ingredients
Supports reformulation, fibre enrichment, and hybrid products
Provides drop-in solutions compatible with standard manufacturing processes
Operates with a scale-first, industrial mindset (multi-tonne daily capacity)
Products & Applications
UPP ingredients are suitable for use across:
Ready meals and prepared foods
Meat hybrids
Plant-based and flexitarian products
Bakery and snacks
Typical inclusion rates range from 4–30%, depending on application and formulation goals.
Commercial Readiness
Multi-tonne daily production capacity
HACCP implemented
SEDEX member - SAQ complete
UK-based manufacturing and supply chain
The Policy Regulatory Committee (PRC) of a major supermarket has cleared our Fiba and Bynda products as non-novel and approved them for use in their supply chain.
Two major Tier 1 food producers have given full Approval Status for the supply of UPP product.
Sustainability & Impact:
UPP’s ingredients are derived from existing agricultural production, avoiding additional land use and cultivation inputs. An initial Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) has been completed, with results published transparently alongside methodology, boundaries, and assumptions.
Key highlights:
Significantly lower carbon footprint versus conventional ingredients
Focus on efficient resource use and food system circularity
Independent LCA available under NDA for partners and customers
Customers & Partners
UPP works with the food supply chain across the UK and Europe. Customer projects range from over 30 early-stage trials to initial commercial supply.
Case studies are available on request, but refer to the East of Scotland Growers press release, article and the partnerships page.

Broccoli is a natural source of vitamin K and contains folate, potassium and beta-carotene, a provitamin A carotenoid. Our Fiba, Bynda and Prota products are a source of fibre, making them nutritionally valuable ingredients.
"Allergen-free" refers to the absence of the 14 allergens requiring declaration under UK/EU FIC. See here for our Allergen statement.
